Apply for Admission at Unisa 2026
Online application for Admission at Unisa for the 2026 academic year is now opened. All first-time applicants and Unisa students changing to a new qualification or specialisation (undergraduate/postgraduate) can now submit an online application via the official Unisa website at www.unisa.ac.za online application portal 2026. Everyone wanting to study at the University of South Africa (Unisa) for the 2026 academic year must pay an online application fee of R145. Remember that application fee paid is non-refundable even if you decide not to study at Unisa or do not meet the admission requirements for your chosen qualification.
However, applicants who previously applied for admission and were not offered a space or who were offered a space, accepted the offer and did not register can also apply for admission at Unisa in 2026. Likewise Uinsa students completing a higher certificate or any other programme and who wish to continue with further undergraduate studies. Applicants who plan to enrol for classes at a Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college under the Unisa-TVET agreement may apply via the relevant TVET college or online through Unisa.
Unisa Application Dates for 2026
Consider the follwing dates before applying to study at Unisa in 2026
- Unisa Undergraduate qualification: 21 August 2025 to 11 October 2025
- Honours degrees and postgraduate diplomas: 21 August 2025 to 11 October 2025
- Unisa masters and doctoral qualifications: 2 September to 22 November 2025 (some exceptions apply).
- Application & Registration for short courses for the 2026 academic year will be available in November 2025
Documents Required for Unisa Admission 2026
All applicants should provide the following supporting documents for Unisa online application for admission in 2026
- A copy of your official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable)
- Sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans
- A copy of your school qualifications (Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate)
- A copy of your ID document (RSA students) or ID/passport (international students)
- A copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable)
UNISA Admission Requirements 2026
You must meet the following minimum admission entry requiremnets at Unisa for the 2026 academic year
- You must have Senior Certificate, National Certificate Vocational or Foreign Certificate
- You must have a maximum of 50% of the prescribed credits in the form of credits and exemptions
- Those who wrote matric before 2009 must hold a Senior Certificate with an endorsement
- A certified copy of an official academic record, a conduct certificate and the syllabus in some cases
- For international qualifications, SAQA evaluation and the syllabus are required
- Knowledge or skills acquired during practical work experience, including community work in a relevant field
How to Apply for Admission at Unisa 2026
Follow the steps below to submit Unisa online application for 2026:
- Visit www.unisa.ac.za admission portal
- From the top menu of the page, click “Admission”
- Go to “Apply for Admission 2026” tab
- Select the type of qualification, either undergraduate or postgraduate
- Carefully read the online application instructions before you continue
- Click on the “Start the process” link to begin the application
- Read how the selection and the application process entail
- Proceed to the ODeL and Unisa to know a different way of learning
- After having an understanding of the ODeL, click on the “Apply Now” link
- Fill out and complete the online application form with the necessary details
- Pay the online application fee of R145 and keep a proof of payment
- Upload all your needed supporting documents. Make sure the are certified
- Submit your application for evaluation.
Unisa will assess your application and applicants who do not qualify for admission will get feedback as well as those who qualify for admission will only receive final feedback as to whether or not Unisa will offer them a space for semester 1 of the 2025 academic year once all applications received by the closing date have been processed.
