The Advanced Certificate in Education (ACE) is a postgraduate qualification aimed at educators in the University of South Africa. • Teachers who desire to focus on teaching mathematics and English (FAL) but who have not previously completed a professional teaching degree in either of those subjects (retraining).
• Teachers who want to focus more on teaching English and mathematics (FAL) during the Intermediate phase.
• Teachers who completed a National Professional Diploma in Education at NQF Level 5 (or an initial three-year Diploma in Education from the old College of Education) (upgrading).

Students who do not meet all the admission requirements for this qualification should rather consider applying for a BEd degree (if not already professionally qualified).

To study an advanced certificate course in Education, you must meet the following requirements;

• An accredited Bachelor of Education degree
  or
• an accredited Postgraduate Certificate in Education (or a former Higher Diploma in Education Postgraduate),
  or
• a minimum three-year Diploma in Education NQF Level 6,
  or
• a minimum three-year Teacher’s Diploma NQF Level 6,
  or
• a National Professional Diploma in Education NQF Level 5.
