The University of South Africa (Unisa) is urging all students to submit their assignments before they are allow to take the end of semester examination for the 2026 academic year. The assignment is intended to ensure that, students are thoroughly prepared for their examination. Students may submit their assignments through the official website page of Unisa after converting the written assignment into prescribed format. Those students studying at the premises of Unisa campus may also submit all their assignment in hardcopy format to their various faculties and college if applicable. As part of the assignment, students may be required to submit a portfolio, project, or practical work, which will also serve as their assignment.
Every Unisa students must take note that, assignment can contribute some percentage of marks to the final examination marks, therefore in most other courses at Unisa, assignments do not count towards the final mark, but simply serve as an entrance requirement for the examinations. Unisa encourage students to complete and submit every assignment before the examination periods. Any assignments that will be submitted after the specified period will not be accepted. This article will teach you the easiest method and all the guidelines needed in submitting your Unisa assignment.
It is the student’s responsibility that assignments reach Unisa on or before the due date. Failure to do this will result in non-admission to the examination and the year mark will be negatively affected. In some instances where student cannot submit a required assignment on time, a request for extension should be made in advance to the relevant academic department. Such extensions will be granted only in exceptional circumstances, such as illness or death in the family. Supporting documentation, such as a death certificate, a sick note, or affidavits, is required to justify the extension request.

Types Of Unisa Assignments:
Informal Assignment for students with Internet access:
- If you have Internet access, you can introduce yourself to the rest of the class on the discussion forum under the “Hello…”-thread. The reason for this assignment is twofold. First, it ensures that you have proper access to our discussion forum and knows how to use it. The second reason for introducing yourself is to get to know the rest of your classmates. Experience has told us that students benefit a lot by communication with their fellow students! If you have Internet access, please make sure that you become part of this group.
Formal Assignments:
- There are THREE formal assignments for each module (four in total). The first two assignments are comprised of multiple choice questions. All assignments must be submitted ON or BEFORE a specified due date for marking. NO late assignments will be marked. Due to the tight time constraints of fitting everything into a semester, Unisa will NOT be able to consider late assignments for marking. If you cannot make a due date, remember that it will not be counted against you – you can only benefit by submitting it in time.
Things To Consider In Submitting Unisa Assignment:
- It is important to complete cover sheets correctly. They should have the following completed: your student number, the course code, the assignment number, student’s initials and surname, student’s address, unique number, cell phone number.
- Check for any mistakes before submitting as there is no options of recorrecting it after submission.
- Make sure your student number appears on the assignment.
Bases On Which Unisa Assignment Submission Can Be Extended Or Re-submit:
In some instances where student cannot submit a required assignment on time, a request for extension should be made in advance to the relevant academic department. Such extensions will be granted only in exceptional circumstances, such as illness or death in the family. Supporting documentation, such as a death certificate, a sick note, or affidavits, is required to justify the extension request. Below are also other means to re-submit your assignment:
- In situation where resubmit button is available.
- When the assignment has not been marked.
- When the due date for submission passed and the supervisor granted the permission to re-submit.
- In instance where the supervisor or the lecturer mistakenly misplaced your assignment.
Channels To Submit Unisa Assignment:
Unisa assignment can be submitted through various channels such as, the online method, postal method and submitting the hardcopy assignment to the colleges and faculties directly on Unisa campus. Below are the channels to submit your assignments.
Electronic submission
- Using this method, the assignment must be admitted through the SOL server (https://sol.unisa.ac.za). Do NOT e-mail your assignment to the lecturers please since it cannot be marked by the computer program which marks the incoming assignments.
Postal submission
- Put your assignment in a Unisa envelope and post it to Unisa. Use the services and procedures booklet, that you have received with your registration papers if you have any queries in this regard.
Hardcopy Channel:
- Students studying at the premises of Unisa campus may also submit all their assignment in hardcopy format to their various faculties and college if applicable.

Steps To Follow For Unisa Assignment Submission:

Submitting multiple-choice assignments via myUnisa:
In this section, the assignment consist of many modules, therefore the assignment is completed and submitted through the official website page of Unisa. Below are the steps to follow to submit your assignment:
- Log on to your myUnisa account
- Go to ‘More Sites’
- Select the module’s site
- Click on ‘Assignments’
- Find the assignment you’ll be submitting
- Click on ‘Submit’
- Enter the total number of questions for your assignment in the Number of Questions field.
- Click on the radio button [the small circle] that corresponds to your answer for that question.
- Click on the Continue button to submit your assignment.
Submitting written (text) assignments online:
With this process of submission, the written assignment is submitted online through the official website page of Unisa.
- Log on to your myUnisa account
- Go to ‘myAdmin’
- Click on ‘Assignment Submission’
- Select the file to be submitted
- Review your assignment and make corrections if any.
- Submit assignment
Submitting written (text) assignments via Post:
The submission of this assignment is directly posted to the institute, by using Unisa postal address. Students must ensure to put the assignment in a Unisa envelope and post it to Unisa.
- Complete assignment
- Print out assignment
- Make sure all your details are on the cover sheet
- Compile and place in a Unisa envelope provided
- Address the Unisa envelope with Unisa postal details
- Send assignment to postal center
- Submit your assignment
Ways To Check If Unisa Assignment Is Submitted:
There are three ways to check that your assignments have been successfully submitted:
- When you submit an assignment, you will receive a clear status message. If the message reads “Assignment received in good order”, your assignment has been successfully received by Unisa.
- You will receive a receipt with a unique track and trace number on submission.
- Your list of assignments for each module on myUnisa will be updated immediately after the successful submission of an assignment.
